Mask for Change

RED. This color has never meant more to me than it does now. Today, I am ready to share the red mask I created in memory of my grandfather, who passed away two months ago on May 1, 2020.

Red was his favorite color. When I see it, I think of him. I think of the life he lived, and all the hard work and sacrifice he made to give my family the chance at the American dream. My grandfather was a courageous, intelligent, devoted, and extraordinary man. This mask is a celebration of his life and legacy.

Red is beautiful in its complexity. It is strong and passionate, yet it can also be dangerous and aggressive. As such, I see it as the most human of all the colors. It is the color of the blood that runs through ALL of us and gives us life. No matter our race, ethnicity, orientation, or background, it is one thing we share in common.

Now more than ever there needs to be more unity, more compassion, more respect, and more love. Life is a gift and every day is a new opportunity for us to do and be better. We stand with you to beat this pandemic, we stand with you against racial injustice, and we stand with you in this fight for change.
